Maeve Ann Elizabeth Kirk. Born 2nd January 2010
posted bystavThis post is under duress. Duress only because I have to get some photo’s up. Maeve was born about just over a week ago, and while we had plenty of time to take photo’s, life at home is pretty hectic with Wilson as well.
That said, it’s all going pretty well. TK is well and Maeve is ticking all the right boxes as far she can at just over a week old.

It’s hot in Melbourne. Last night the mercury struggled to dip below 26 degrees which, under normal circumstances, makes sleep difficult.
But it wasn’t the heat that kept me awake last night. It was an adrenalin fueled nervousness and the strong aroma of excitement that I haven’t felt since the few days before I got married. Not even the effect of a six pack of IPA could relieve last night’s “head miles”.
After a visit to the obstetrician yesterday afternoon the reality of what our new year will involve registered. It was like a thick slap to the back of the head.
2009 was a challenging year on the business front and at home, raising Wilson, was equally hard work. But the rewards are paying off and we are the proud parents of an amazing son. Our gift for the New Year will be another child and whole new set of challenges.
2010 – roll on and break out the cigars!

posted bystavI didn’t realise just how quickly things change - I’m talking about Wilson. It’s 10 weeks this Thursday since Wilson’s birth.
It’s obviously a familiarity thing. You get to see it everyday so you dont notice the daily, subtle changes.
Here is Wilson - day 1:

And here he is this week.

Finally!!! Some photos to look at

Wilson is 6 and a half weeks old in these photo’s

Cheeky Monkey

Finally!! I hit one

7 weeks old. “I love it when Aunty Jen stays over, I get to stay up late and get lots of cuddles”

Me and my new best friend Molly Rose have just been told it’s bed time. NO WAY!!!

MUM!!! That’s not funny.

My cousin Kenz loves me

John doesn’t normally hold babies younger than 6 weeks, but he made an exception to the rule for me!!

posted byTKLearnt the skill of doing everything one handed, whilst holding Wilson in other, it’s good to rotate arms in case one bicep gets bigger than the other
Learnt that cold toast and coffee isn’t all that bad, even when your still trying to finish them by lunchtime
Learnt that in order to get showered by 4.30pm when daddy gets home means sometimes Wilson will need to be in rocker on floor in bathroom
Learnt that it is the norm these days to have done at least 3 loads of washing by lunch time (I was always a fan of washing anyway)
Learnt to only go to one place to do weekly shopping, (instead of three) get it done in half hr and get home before next feed
Learnt that breast pads were invented for a reason (you need 3 boxes a week)
Learnt that breast feeding is the most selfless act a mother can do, especially when your nipples bleed, swell and crack and one must PUSH ON through the pain, but remember ladies “Breast feeding should feel 100% comfortable” If i hear that one more time!!!!
Learnt that Wilson comes first, he screams louder than daddy and dogs
Learnt that the “simple thing simple life are often the best”, like how just getting out for a walk is a damn big achievement for the day
Learnt that I was kidding myself when I enrolled to do two courses by correspondence whilst twiddling fingers on maternity leave
Learnt that Wilson can fart and burp louder than most adults and likes to practice in the presence of others who often think it was mummy.
Learnt that being a mum is time consuming, full on at times and rewarding alot of the time and I LOVE IT!!!!
Learnt that putting a post on this site may take days, even weeks!!!
Sorry about disappearing for a few weeks, but it was worth the wait and I’m back now.

Now, while we’re waiting for Wilson to go to sleep….
posted bystavI need to make a couple of big thanks to GG for helping out with some much needed domestics the other day.
I hadn’t realised just how much stuff you get through when you have a small person in the house. The amount of washing, amongst other things just piles up before you know it. It’s not just the bin that gets full.
If there is any advice I can give anybody in the early stages of a newborn’s life, dont refuse the help. Visitors are great but people coming around who can offer some help are probably the most appreciated people so far ( above and beyond the call of duty, GG did about 4 loads of washing the other morning - thanks). The routine for settling into a new life as well as the strain on sleep means that some of the chores take a back seat. Never knock back the offer of somebody dropping off prepared food packages either.
Dobbie, GG and Sam have sent some stuff around which have been easily prepared with the help of the microwave. Jane bought a loaf of homemade bread over as well. It’s invaluable nutrition for us which makes transition a lot easier. Thanks to you all.
And to those of you who have sent gifts - thank you. We’ll be posting up our appreciation and contacting you shortly.
